Third year coloursman, wicket keeper of the side, right hand middle order bat, all island best wicket keeper, under 19 division one Tier “A” 2023/24 Kavinda Pasan Cooray has brought honour and immense glory to his school Prince of Wales College Moratuwa with his deeds in the field of cricket.
Pasan who hails from Indibedda, Moratuwa was born on 8th August 2007 and in 2013 he was admitted to Methodist School Rawatawatte and in 2015 he was drafted to his present school and when he was in Grade 5 his parents Viranga Cooray and Palika Peiris realizing that his son’s forte is cricket handed over to the school cricket academy coaches and he came under Mr. Nisal and Mr. Vikum respectively.
His first year in under 13 was in 2017 and he scored 126 runs and claimed 14 dismissals behind the stumps and in his second year he got 110 runs and 12 victims and in his final year he scored 162 runs with a half century and got 19 dismissals.
His first year in the under 15 in five outings he claimed 8 victims and in the following year he could not play cricket due to Corona Virus.
Then in the under 17 in four outings he collected 82 runs and got 11 victims and in his final year he scored 120 runs and claimed 24 victims.
His first year in the First Eleven was 2022/23 season and in four matches he scored 82 runs and got 14 dismissals and played for the Big Match and the one dayer versus their arch rivals St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa. And in his last season he collected 287 runs with a fifty and collected 48 victims behind the stumps and played for the Big Match and the one dayer and won the Best Fielder’s Award at the Big Match and with all these performances under his belt he was adjudged as the Best Wicket Keeper at the All Island under 19 Division One Tier “A”.
