Sri Lanka’s Bovindi Jithsara advanced to the finals of the Girls’ Singles at the ATF Under-16 Tennis Tournament, held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts in Colombo yesterday.
Jithsara, a student from Bishop’s College, delivered an impressive performance, defeating Tejasvi Kotti of India with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 scoreline. With this win, she secured her place in the finals, where she will face Divya Ungrish of India.
In the other semi-final, Ungrish edged past Sri Lanka’s Yuhansa Peiris in a tightly contested match. Ungrish won 7-6, 7-5, setting up an all-India vs Sri Lanka final in the Girls’ Singles category.
Meanwhile, in the Under-16 Boys’ Third Round, Sri Lanka’s Methika Wickramasinghe showed his class by defeating his compatriot Thenuka Nanayakkara in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. In another boys’ match, Sithija Peiris of Sri Lanka overcame India’s Akshath Singh 5-7, 6-2, 4-1, after Singh retired due to injury.
