An all round performances by Suwanji Madanayake with a record bowling spell capturing 7 wickets for 12 runs in 6.2 overs and scoring 40 runs in 32 balls including 5 fours guided Colombo Masters Cricket Association to beat Nationalised Services Cricket Association by a resounding 198 runs at the CVC’s 50 plus inaugural Cricket tournament 2024, organised and conducted by the Ceylon Veterans Cricket, played at the Nationalised Services Cricket Association ground last week.
Colombo Masters Cricket Association taking first lease of the wicket, openers Wijayananda Perera and Pujitha Gunawardena steadied the innings with a 88 runs stand for the opening wicket. Wijayananda Perera (43), Pujitha Gunawardena (48), Suwanji Madanayake (40), Skipper Shafeek Rahim (53 retired hurt), Suranjith Dharmasena (13), Aman Karunarathne (10). With these batters contributions CMCA were able to reach to a resounding total of 248 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their alloted 40 overs. Jagath Samarajeewa, Nishantha Rupasinghe, Palitha Liyanage, Asoka Perera and Saman De Soysa with a wicket each were the pick of the bowlers for NSCA.
Nationalised Services Cricket Association in reply, at one stage were 17 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the 6th over, the rest of wickets too falling at regular intervals, NSCA could manage to get only 40 runs on board. Suwanji Madanayake, the wrecker capturing 7 wickets, Riyad Fawsi 2 wickets and Sisila Indraratne 1 wicket shared the bowling honors.
