Science College tasted victory for the first time this season when they beat Thurstan College 26-14 in their 4th Week Inter School A-Division league rugby encounter played at the home of Science rugby in Mount Lavinia yesterday (17).
The home side started brightly and played with pace and energy. They took an early 14-0 lead.
Thurstan hit back with two tries. Skipper Ahad Sallay scored the first, and Pasan Susmitha added the second. Both tries were converted and added fuel to the game.
For Science, Mohomed Nabeel scored a try which Oshada Fonseka converted. Minula Abeyadeera then crossed for the third try, though it went unconverted. That gave Science a 19-14 lead at the short breather.
Science College rugby is powered by George Steuart Health this year as well.
Half-time: Science College 19-14 Thurstan College
Pasan Susmitha scored Science’s fourth try in the second half to seal the game. It was the only scoring done in the second essay which was battled in high octane by both teams. Thurstan however failed to capitalise any scoring opportunity which also put an end to their high riding momentum after two morale boosting wins against S. Thomas' College (season opener) and Kingswood College (previous week).
Science got this win after a heavily demoralising loss against the Thomians in the Mount Lavinia derby at their last encounter in the same venue. Science lads bounced back with gusto to clinch a much needed win for their fans who've been craving for a win this season.
