H.M. Savinu Sandinu Herath and Dhanesh Yasas of Dhammissara National College, Nattandiya, won gold medals at the 15th Silent Knight International Karate Cup Championship held recently in Malaysia.
Representing the Sri Lanka National School Karate Team, the two athletes secured gold in the Team Kumite event in the 12-13 age category.
The championship featured athletes from 13 countries.
A total of 40 athletes from 35 schools represented the Sri Lanka Schools Team at the tournament.
Notably, the Sri Lanka team won 6 gold medals in total, and 2 of those gold medals were secured by the athletes from Dhammissara National College.
These two students were well backed with the fullest support of the school’s Principal, K.D.C. Ruwan Kumara, Sports-in-charge teacher W.R.R.S. Fernando, Karate-in-charge G.A.M. Sajjantha Windyani, the karate instructors, all teachers of the academic staff, parents, and the Dhammissara Old Boys’ Association.
