The Lanka Lions Rugby Club, proudly representing the Sri Lankan community in the UAE, held their highly anticipated jersey presentation in Dubai ahead of the prestigious Emirates Dubai Sevens tournament. which will be worked off from November 29 to December 1 the Dubai Sevens attracts top teams from across the globe, and the Lanka Lions are eager to make their mark. The Jersey Presentation event was honored by distinguished guests, including Asia Rugby President Qais Al Dhalai, a long-time supporter of Sri Lankan rugby and a strong advocate for the Sri Lankan rugby community in the UAE. Also in attendance were current Fiji national player Suliano Volivoli and Ashen Gunaratne, Director of UUDS, who had the privilege of presenting the social team with their jerseys. Competing in both the Gulf Men’s Open and Gulf Men’s Socials categories, the Lanka Lions have earned a reputation for excellence. The Men’s Open category is fiercely competitive, but the Lions have risen to the occasion in recent years, winning the coveted cup for three consecutive years under the leadership of former captains Adil Deen, Imad Reyal, and Afzal Mohamed. This year, the team is led by 4th-year player Anojan Balasundaram, who takes on the captaincy to continue the Lions’ legacy of success. . The team features a wealth of experience, with stalwarts like Adil Deen, Afzal Mohamed, Kushan Indunil, Shazard Deen, Sefa Waqa, Faris Ali, Keponi Paul, and captain Anojan Balasundaram, all of whom have been integral to the Lions’ success. This year’s squad is further strengthened by the addition of former national players Sajith Saranga, Kavindu Costa, and Kandy SC captain Lavanga Perera, who bring extra muscle and experience to the team. The team is once again coached by two stalwarts: Rockini Saimoni, a former Fiji national player, and Azarath Deen, a former player for CH & FC. .The social team is Captained by former CR & FC player Zayan Sabar who is assisted by Ashwantha Herath and Chinthaka Lahiru.
Awareness programme for cricket
Over here in Kandy an awareness program on physical fitness development and nutrition for school coaches in Kandy was held on 27th and 28th at the Pallekelle cricket stadium. It was conducted by the coaching education unit of the Central Province Cricket Association. The participants were from Kandy Zone II on Wednesday and on Thursday were Zone III, from both zones there were about fifty schools that were seen in action.
Kandy’s Khalid does well in India
Kandy’s Khalid Gazali has done well in the Heyball under 19 world cue tournament, this 16 year old cueist is taking part in this tournament with a another countrymen Hassan Amanulla of Colomb in the in the World under 19 Heyball tournament in Bangalore India. Khalid Gazalli was able to beat Hassan Amanulla conversely by seven frames to one, this win helps him to secure a place to progress further in the tournament. This is the first time a Sri Lanakan is participating in a World Heyball tournament, in the first game he beat Canadian cueist Brazin Manipilla
