DSS-Mahanama clash heading for a draw

The 20th annual Battle of the Golds Inter-School Big Match between the traditional rivals D. S. Senanayake (DSS) College and Mahanama College was heading for a tame draw after the batsmen

dominated the second day at the SSC Grounds in Maitland Place yesterday.

Mahanama were well placed at 161 for no loss at stumps after DSS labored for 119 overs for their first innings total of 344 runs, while maintaining a run-rate of less than three-runs per over.

DSS continued their first innings almost into the third session of play and frustrated the opposition after having resumed their innings at 195 for four with their late order batsmen making some valuable contributions. Randisha Bandaranayake, batting at number eight and Chanul Athale, batting at number nine, made use of the friendly batting conditions with a 70-run partnership for the eighth-wicket. (C.D)
