Sri Lanka’s Dinara de Silva made a strong advance to the quarterfinals of the Girls Open Singles in the second week of the ITF World Junior J60 Tournament at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts in Colombo yesterday.
De Silva secured her spot by defeating Great Britain’s Hima Fernando in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. She is the only Sri Lankan player to reach this stage of the tournament and will face her next challenge in the quarterfinal today.
In the Boys Singles Second Round, it was a tough day for the Sri Lankans. Methvan Wijemanne was knocked out by Singapore’s Luke Koh, losing 6-4, 6-3. Meanwhile, Ganuka Fernando fell to India’s Viraj Gohil, with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat. Both failed to progress to the quarterfinals.
The tournament continues today with high expectations for De Silva as the country’s last hope.
