The Faculty of Humanities and Education at CINEC Campus Sri Lanka, one of Sri Lanka’s pioneering non-state higher education institutions, announced the expansion of its recognised English and Education degree offerings, placing it among the largest in Sri Lanka across both state and non-state universities. This expansion supports increased access to UGC-recognised, professionally aligned teacher education pathways, addressing both national and international workforce needs. At present eleven (11) degree programmes are approved by the Ministry of Education and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The faculty’s portfolio includes BA English (General & Honours) and Bachelor of Education Honours degrees in Early Childhood Education and in Sports & Physical Education. CINEC is distinguished within the non-state higher education sector as one of the largest graduate producers in these disciplines, with over 150 graduates per intake, representing substantial academic and professional output in fields traditionally concentrated within the state university system.
Associate Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Education, CINEC Campus, Mr. Lasantha Basnayake, said, “Our faculty’s growth reflects CINEC’s commitment to delivering recognised, high-quality qualifications that combine academic rigour with professional relevance. These degree pathways are designed to equip graduates to progress academically and professionally, while responding to evolving national and global demand for skilled educators.”
Delivered through weekday and weekend schedules with special provisions for working teachers, early childhood educators, and sports professionals, the programmes are structured as both academic and professional qualifications, enabling career progression without the mandatory requirement of a PGDE. This approach aligns with global sector needs, as education systems worldwide face workforce shortages and increased emphasis on early childhood and specialised education.
The expanded degree offerings further strengthen CINEC Campus’s role in Sri Lanka’s higher education landscape, providing UGC-recognised pathways that support both employability and long-term academic progression, while widening access to recognised qualifications within the non-state university sector.
