Top performers honoured at CVC’s inaugural 50 plus league tourney 2024

Suwanji Madanayake of CMCA as the Man of the Series,, Duminda Somaweera of MCA as the Best Batsman and Kishan Dharmasena of MCA as the Most Outstanding Fielder were honoured as the top performers at the Ceylon Veterans Cricket inaugural 50 plus (40 overs) league tournament 2024.

Ceylon Veterans Cricket was recently established which was initiated and powered by CMCA to encourage Masters Cricket in Sri-Lanka. Veterans Cricket was started 20 years ago by Lanka Cavaliers and Colombo Masters initiated Masters Cricket 7 years back, CMCA is the only team to have been registered with the Presidential Secretariat of the Ministy of Sports and continue to run the registration year by year.

Colombo Masters forming the Club started a T/20 quadrangular Cricket tournament including of Mercantile Cricket Association, State Services Cricket Association and Nationalised Cricket Association in 2018 and establishing now as Ceylon Veterans Cricket (Guarantee) Ltd in Sri-Lanka was the brain child of the Colombo Masters Cricket Club President Mahes De Zoysa to come up with a 50 plus league of a 40 overs tournament which has been set up and under the banner of Ceylon Veterans Cricket a triangular 50 plus (40 overs) tournament was conducted with Colombo Masters CA, Mercantile CA and Nationalised Services CA taking part. Ceylon Veterans Cricket is a guaranteed limited liability Company the only recognised, A governing body currently operating in Sri Lanka..

Sri- Lanka is far behind where Veterans Cricket is concerned and Ceylon Veterans Cricket is expected to set up 40/50/60 plus tournaments to keep up in line with the World Veterans Cricket playing nations, where they have a proper structure and with the newly formed Ceylon Veterans Cricket in Sri-Lanka, Veterans Cricket can be popularised to take part in Veterans International tournaments, players selected from Veterans Cricket Club playing in Sri-Lanka can represent the nations in forth coming International Tournaments.
