Sri Lanka opening batsman Pathum Nissanka has achieved new career-high ratings to rank among the top ten batters in the ICC rankings for both ODI and T20 formats after the successful West Indies home series.
Nissanka, the 26-year-old right-hand opener, reached 7th position in the ICC ODI ranking with 695 points, while he is at 8th position in the ICC T20 ranking with 658 points. Nissanka was named the T20 Player of the Series for his consistent performances, scoring 104 runs with a high score of 54. Despite being limited to only one ODI due to injury, he showcased his skills with a solid half-century at Pallekele.
Several Sri Lankan players have also achieved high rankings following their recent performances. Kamindu Mendis moved up to 9th place with 716 points in the latest ICC Test batting rankings, while England’s Joe Root remains at the top with 903 points. ODI captain Charith Asalanka has reached 12th in the ICC ODI batting rankings, and Kusal Mendis is now 12th in the T20 rankings.
Sri Lankan leg-spinner Prabath Jayasuriya is ranked 7th in ICC Test bowling with 801 points, while South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada holds the top spot with 860 points. Sri Lankan paceman Asitha Fernando is also in 13th place in the ICC Test rankings with 692 points.
In T20 rankings, mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana has reached a career-high 3rd position, and leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is 6th with 667 points. Hasaranga also ranks 10th in the ICC ODI all-rounder rankings. Both took five wickets each in the recent T20 series against West Indies, with Hasaranga leading with six wickets. Theekshana was awarded Player of the Match in the second game after taking 3 for 25.
Chamari among top ten players in both ODI and T20 formats
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka women’s team skipper Chamari Athapaththu moved up one position to 3rd place with 733 points in the ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings, while she is also in 9th position with 670 points in the latest ICC T20 batting rankings.
Her recent all-round performances moved her to 8th in the ICC ODI all-rounder rankings and 5th in T20 all-rounders. In addition, Sri Lankan fast bowler Udeshika Probodani and leg-spinner Inoka Ranaweera are in 21st and 22nd places in the latest ODI bowling rankings, while promising all-rounder Kaveesha Dilhari has reached 16th position in the women’s all-rounder rankings.
