Nishan Pieris has been added to the Sri Lanka squad for the second Test against New Zealand as a replacement for left-arm paceman Vishwa Fernando, who developed an injury as stated by the Sri Lanka team Management.
Vishwa, who bowled really well in the England Test series, developed tightness in his right hamstring and has been sent to the High Performance Centre for rehabilitation work.
The 27-year-old right-arm off-spinner Pieris, who recently came from South Africa after the Sri Lanka A match series, has now joined the Sri Lanka squad. The selectors added another spinner to the squad, as the Galle ground is more suited for spinners. However, with Prabath Jayasuriya, Ramesh Mendis, and Skipper Dhananjaya de Silva already in the squad as spinners, Pieris’ chance to play in the second Test is very unlikely.
