Lankan Women Cricketers return home

The Sri Lanka women’s cricket team, which participated in the Twenty20 World Cup cricket tournament held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, arrived at Katunayake Airport on Sunday after losing all the matches which they played.

Speaking to the media, the captain of the Sri Lanka women’s cricket team Chamari Athapattu said that she and her team mates are saddened by their poor display.

“We left for Sharjah with high hopes. We won the warm up matches. But we could not win even one match in the tournament”.

“Our poor batting and fielding are the main reasons for our defeat.

Especially I failed in batting, Harshita and Vishmi too failed”.

She said that we hope to correct our mistakes and move forward and this is the best opportunity for that, and we hope to work hard again and go for victory.

Chamari Athapaththu added that they have New Zealand tour in February next year, and that the One Day World Cup will be held next. Sri Lanka is currently in 5th place and our main focus is on that, said Chamari.
