91In a move aimed at strengthening its corporate structure and long-term plans for the future, George Steuart Insurance Brokers (Pvt) Ltd. (GSIB), leading corporate insurance and reinsurance broker in Sri Lanka, appointed Mr. T. S. Arulanandan (Arul) as its Managing Director and Principal Officer effective from 1st April 2026.
Arul counts more than 30 years of management experience in insurance underwriting and brokering. Prior to his appointment as a Director at GSIB, he held the positions of Director-Insurance at Finlay Insurance Brokers (Pvt) Ltd and Managing Director of Finlays Maldives (Pvt) Ltd, in the Republic of Maldives which were subsidiaries of Finlays Colombo PLC.
Arul, an alumnus of INSEAD Singapore / France, brings in a wealth of experience and strength to the GSIB team. He takes over the reins from Mr. Joachim Caspersz (Joey) who continues as an Executive Director of the Company. The changes have regulatory approval.
Arul said that he was honoured to be leading GSIB into its next phase of growth. He pointed out that growing the relevance of insurance brokering in Sri Lanka was imperative for the local industry, whilst also stating GSIB’s aspirations of spreading its footprint regionally.
As a broker, GSIB believes it is imperative to embrace innovation and in particular Insurtech solutions for enhanced efficiency benefitting the end customer.
GSIB, he pointed out, was among the first of the local insurance brokers to be specifically licensed to offer reinsurance services and the Company plans on expanding these services. He further said that the company firmly believes that these initiatives will bring in best-in-class value addition to the local industry and its stakeholders.
GSIB has also further strengthened its profile by appointing Mr. Ramanan David as Non-Executive Director. Ramanan, who has a wealth of experience in the business and corporate world, will join alongside the company’s operational directors: Mr. Kumar Muthiah, a former Head of Marine at Eagle Insurance under Zurich Sri Lanka and DGM/ Head of General Insurance at Aviva/AIA General Sri Lanka, Mr. Rohana Weerasinghe heading the claims and technical, and Ms. Dharini Fernando heading Reinsurance, Cyber Insurance & Specialty Lines.
George Steuart Insurance Brokers is a subsidiary of the George Steuart Group of Companies, the oldest mercantile establishment in Sri Lanka with a history going back over 190 years.
