Union Assurance, CSR programmes are revamped to focus on driving community wellbeing as a key strategic area of focus.
Non-communicable diseases (NCD) rate in Sri Lanka is escalating rapidly and it has posed a heavy burden on the healthcare system of the country and household income levels.
Hence Union Assurance decided that prevention of NCD should be addressed with immediate effect. Within NCDs we selected diabetes since it has evolved to become a dreaded NCD of epidemic proportion. Thus it became our key area of focus and we decided to define our CSR strategy around prevention of diabetes.
‘Suwamaga’ being a nationwide CSR initiative was launched to address the growing prevalence of diabetes. ‘Suwamaga’ mandate was done with a view to building awareness on diabetes and early prevention. “This comprehensive programme is designed holistically to guide individuals toward better health outcomes with focus on raising awareness about diabetes, promoting healthier lifestyles, supporting early detection and risk management and fostering community engagement,” said Union Assurance Chief Executive Officer Senath Jayatilake at the unveiling of ‘Suwamaga’ Mobile Screening Unit’ to combat diabetes in Sri Lanka.
‘Suwamaga’ mobile unit is fully equipped to provide free diabetes screening conducted by certified healthcare professionals along with health reports and personalised guidance for individuals in managing and mitigating health risks. It will travel across Sri Lanka from urban hubs to rural regions ensuring access to free testing for individuals of all ages and thereby enhancing public accessibility to healthcare services.
