Trinity College, Janadhipathi Balika win U-20 National Schools Hockey titles

Trinity College Kandy and Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya Nawala emerged as the boys’ and girls’ champions respectively at the All-Island National Schools Games Under-20 Hockey Tournament 2026, conducted by the Ministry of Education at the Torrington Hockey Turf in Colombo.

Trinity College ended a 40-year wait to win the Under-20 Boys’ title. In a thrilling final against St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa, the two teams finished 0–0 in regulation time before Trinity held their nerve to record a 5–4 victory on penalty strokes.

This was Trinity College’s first Under-20 Boys’ All-Island Schools Games hockey championship in 40 years. Vidyartha College Kandy secured third place in the boys’ tournament.

In the Under-20 Girls’ final, Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya Nawala defeated Sri Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya Matale to retain the championship. This was the second consecutive occasion on which Janadhipathi Balika had won the Under-20 Girls’ title. Bishop’s College Colombo finished third.

Trinity College captain Mohamed Arkam was selected as the Boys’ Most Valuable Player, while Nethuli Senethmi of Janadhipathi Balika Vidyalaya received the Girls’ Most Valuable Player award.
