Sri Lankan businesses can achieve significant economic benefits by working together with Indian businesses. Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Consumer Products Ltd T. Krishnakumar said.
Delivering the keynote address at the ‘Sri Lanka Economic and Investment Summit 2026’ organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in Colombo on Monday, Krishnakumar said the Reliance Consumer Products had established relationships with four Sri Lankan companies over the past four years and had already launched two products from its Sri Lankan partners in the Indian market with reasonable success.
He further said that since there is a very large market in India, Sri Lankan businesses can reap vast benefits from it catering the needs of Indian customers. He said India’s economic growth, expanding middle class and rising consumer aspirations offered significant opportunities for Sri Lankan businesses, particularly in sectors such as apparel, tea, ceramics and food.
Krishnakumar said geographical proximity and longstanding cultural ties provided a strong foundation for bilateral business partnerships, which could help companies reach new consumers and develop stronger value chains. Drawing on Reliance Consumer Products’ experience, he said the company had grown from a three-member team to nearly 11,000 employees within years, generating more than US$1 billion in revenue in the last financial year.
Krishnakumar identified four key lessons for businesses: disciplined execution, respect for local consumer preferences, effective use of digital technologies and maintaining affordability alongside quality. He stressed that businesses must understand consumers’ needs and purchasing power, adding that dependable quality at fair prices remained central to building consumer trust. He also highlighted the growing importance of digital payments, e-commerce and artificial intelligence, saying businesses should ensure that these technologies are accessible and supported by the necessary skills.
Emphasising the importance of trust and perseverance, Krishnakumar said lasting partnerships depended on mutual understanding, honouring commitments and sharing benefits fairly. He said businesses had a responsibility not only to develop quality products but also to make them affordable to ordinary consumers, while supporting local enterprises and creating sustainable economic opportunities. Reliance Consumer Products. is looking to deepen its partnerships with Sri Lankan businesses, combining the two countries’ strengths in manufacturing, product development, sourcing and distribution to expand into new consumer markets, He attributed the company’s growth to consistent execution, strong partnerships and a commitment to delivering quality products at affordable prices.
