Railway station buildings to be developed as commercial centers

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Transport and Highways to call the proposals on a competitive basis and select suitable investors to develop other railway stations in the island under a public-private partnership.

Expressions of interest have been called to identify investors who wish to develop Kolpetty, Bambalapitiya,
Wallawatte, Slave Island, Dehiwala and Mount Lavinia stations, which are located close to Colombo town
under a public-private partnership. Since, the expressions of Interest have been forwarded to develop railway stations located in different places, it has been shown that there is a possibility of developing other railway stations in island wide under public-private partnership.
