Bovindee, Sahansa lead Sri Lanka’s clean sweep into ATF semis

Sri Lanka’s young tennis talent shone brightly as four local players advanced to the semifinals in the ATF Under-14 Girls’ Tournament, Week 1, held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts in Colombo yesterday.

In a thrilling quarterfinal round, Bovindee Jithsara of Sri Lanka defeated India’s Ayessha Bagla with a commanding score of 6-0, 4-6, 6-0. Bovindee’s aggressive groundstrokes and strong serves secured her spot in the semifinals after a brief challenge in the second set. Sahansa Damsiluni also claimed victory, overcoming India’s Haritishwari Nattu 6-4, 6-2 with solid baseline play and consistent returns.

Eliza Kahagalla displayed strong form as she defeated compatriot Sheshndri Fernando 6-2, 6-1, displaying sharp volleys and accurate serves. Ananya Norbet rounded off Sri Lanka’s winning streak with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Zahra Abbasbhoy, dominating the court with powerful groundstrokes.

The semifinals will feature an all-Sri Lankan lineup, with Sahansa facing Ananya and Eliza set to compete against Bovindee. The home crowd is eager as Sri Lanka’s young stars prepare to clash in the next stage of this prestigious tournament.
