Despite Sri Lanka being ranked as on of the safest countries for women travellers, we have seen limited participation of women in the tourism industry.
Women in Management (WIM) in celebrations of 15th anniversary, has unveiled a women-led tourism brand, ‘She Voyages’ a pioneering initiative focusing women’s participation in Sri Lanka tourism sector.
“Through ‘She Voyages’ we aim to attract solo female travellers and women’s groups to explore Sri Lanka. The package consists of integrated women-focused Ayurvedic wellness programmes for body and mind, health and pleasure. To kickstart the initiative, WIM partners with Villa in Galle and Homestay in Colombo, two centres owned by our members,” said WIM EXCO Secretary Waruni Algama at WIM’s 100 Impact Leadership launch that coincided with WIM’s 15th anniversary.
WIM Founder/Chairperson Dr. Sulochana Segera said; “Wellness for women is a must thus should not be a taboo subject. We do have traditional ayurvedic treatment methods entwined with spirituality in our country that focus on mental health, hygiene and body which we can market to the whole world.”
“There is a great miscommunication with regard to wellness centres within the country that prevent women to get such treatment. WIM will promote the mind, soul and body ayurvedic concept within the country and we currently have such centres in Colombo and Galle and the network will be enhanced. We have qualified doctors in addition to therapists.”
Sri Lanka should adopt the concept of forecasting and taking precautions and offering solutions to diverse impending issues. WIM has launched the very first ‘school-based digital banking system’in Sri Lanka. Many children drop out of school before their ordinary level exam while some girls seek unsafe relationships, leading to teenage pregnancies. We created the school-based digital banking system for children to deposit trash in exchange for money. They will be given a digital card through which they can purchase food, books and stationery. We have launched a pilot-project and the programme is available for students upto the age of 16.”
WIM in 2025 has launched 100 Impact Leadership Calendar with three signature brands: Women Top 50, Youth Top 40 and Top 10 Diversity Champions, emphasising on embracing family and nature while empowering future generations and fostering economic and social growth.
