Vibhawa Consultants, an ISO 9001:2015 certified engineering consultancy specializing in electrical testing, inspection, thermography, and power system studies, has announced a significant milestone for Sri Lanka’s engineering sector with Malki Madapatha, becoming the country’s first female Level 2 Certified Infrared Thermographers certified by IRISS, USA- one of world’s leading thermography training.
This achievement represents an important advancement for women in engineering and STEM fields in Sri Lanka, while further strengthening Vibhawa’s position as a leader in advanced infrared thermography and electrical diagnostics.
Over the years, Vibhawa has delivered reliability-focused engineering solutions and condition monitoring services across the power, industrial, commercial, hospitality, and renewable energy sectors, serving clients in Sri Lanka and internationally. The company is also the only organization in Sri Lanka with both in-house Level 3 and Level 2 Certified Infrared Thermographers.
Infrared thermography is a specialized predictive maintenance technology used to identify hidden electrical and mechanical issues (not visible to naked eyes) before they lead to failures. By detecting anomalies such as overheating components, loose connections, and load imbalances, the technology helps organizations improve safety, minimize unplanned downtime, and enhance operational reliability.
Madapatha’s achievement reflects Vibhawa’s strong focus on developing technical talent through continuous learning, practical training, and hands-on project exposure. In her role as Assistant Manager – Testing & QA, she has contributed to a range of complex local and international projects, including reliability-focused thermography work for leading hotel chains in the Maldives.
Commenting on the achievement, Nadeera Wijesinghe, Founder and CEO of Vibhawa Consultants, said:
“Achieving Level 2 certification requires not only technical knowledge, but also extensive practical experience and precision. Malki has consistently demonstrated these qualities across both local and international projects, including reliability-focused thermography work for leading hotel chains in the Maldives.”
He added that the milestone underscores Vibhawa’s long-term commitment to building specialized engineering expertise in Sri Lanka while encouraging more young women to pursue careers in technical and engineering disciplines.
As part of its next phase of growth, Vibhawa is preparing to launch structured technical training programmes and a dedicated Learning Management System (LMS) platform designed to equip the next generation of engineering professionals with practical, industry-relevant skills.
Through initiatives such as these, Vibhawa continues to contribute to the development of Sri Lanka’s engineering capabilities and a more inclusive, technically skilled workforce.
