Nutritional food products maker Candil Products shines at Entrepreneur Awards

Candil Products Pvt. Ltd., a pioneer in nutritional food products, has been awarded the Best Enterprise in the Manufacturing and Industry Sector for the second time at the Western Province Entrepreneurship Awards. Founded in 2020 as a domestic venture in Kaduwela, the company officially registered as Candil Products Pvt. Ltd. in 2021. Specialising in food made from natural, local ingredients without artificial colours, preservatives, or chemical substances, the company has experienced growth in a short span.

String hopper flour with high nutritional value stands out as its flagship product. The company produces string hopper flour, available in 500g packets and 600g containers, made from ingredients like moringa,butterfly pea flower (nil katarolu), pumpkin, beetroot, and finger millets (kurakkan). Candil Products is the first company globally to introduce a Five-In-One package of string hopper flour with five distinct colours and flavours. Other products include tea made of moringa and butterfly pea flower, moringa, butterfly pea flower, pumpkin, dandila, carrot and beetroot flour, natural porridges including a mixture of 15 types of grains as a substitute for milk powder, moringa and mushroom soup, pumpkin soup, ‘thambum hodi’ (a spicy soup) made according to a 300-year-old medicinal recipe. The quality of these products is backed by research conducted in recognised laboratories. Available in supermarkets and organic food stores, the company’s products have also reached foreign markets indirectly. Candil Products has created jobs through a unique butterfly pea flower cultivation project, and empowered local communities by promoting raw material production. The company has earlier received numerous awards, including the Best Entrepreneur in the Western Province (2023), First Place in the Food Sector at the 2023 Trade Fair for Sustainable Development, and Second Place in the Food Sector at the 2022 World Population Day Celebration Exhibition. In the same year, the company received another award from the then-Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardana. The company expressed gratitude to its dedicated staff, distribution agents, store owners, and customers for their support in achieving these milestones.
