National Savings Bank emerged as the Champions beating Sanasa Development Bank by 19 runs in the final of the BOC’s 85th anniversary celebrations invitation Inter-Bank Cricket sixes. The tournament was organised by the Bank of Ceylon Sports Club as a part of Bank’s 85th Anniversary celebrations and was played at the Thurstan ground, Colombo recently.
At this invitation tournament, the organisers decided that 5 males and a female to play in a team to encourage the females as well and twenty Seven Banking Institutions in Sri-Lanka accepting the invitation took part in this tournament.
The 27 teams that participated are MBSL, Indian Bank, SDB, SCB, NDB, CBSL, SMIB, BOC “A” and “B” teams, Amana Bank, PABC, Cargills Bank, DFCC, HNB, NTB, Seylan Bank, Habib Bank, Union Bank, Sampath Bank, Commercial Bank, MCB, People’s Bank, State Bank of India, RDB, HDFC, NSB, Citi Bank, and HSBC.
Kavan Rathnayake, Chairman of the Bank of Ceylon who was the chief guest and graced the occasion at the opening ceremony thanked all the participants for accepting the Invitation of the Bank of Ceylon’s 85th anniversary celebratios Inter-Bank Cricket Sixes, where the Bank has offererd Rs. 250.000/= prize money for the winners, Rs. 150,000/= for the runner up and many other awards on line. Also he expressed a special vote of thanks to the Secretary of the Sports Club, P. Udaya Imalsha for getting this tournament organised with the able support of the President, Piral De Silva and the Commitee members of the Sports Club to have this event on a grand scale.
Russell Fonseka, General Manager of the Bank of Ceylon who was the guest of honour at this 85th anniversary celebrations Inter-Bank Cricket Sixes tournament was thrilled to see the tournament ending on a high note.
