Jazz Powers 1,000 Telecom Sites with Solar Energy in Partnership with Huawei

Jazz, a leading connectivity provider in Pakistan, has deployed solar power systems at 1,000 telecom sites across the country in collaboration with Huawei. The project has a total installed capacity of 13 MW, making it one of the largest renewable energy deployments in the telecom sector.

The deployment focuses on transitioning telecom infrastructure from fuel-based power sources to solar energy, supporting more stable operations in locations where energy supply conditions can vary.

The solar-powered sites are expected to generate approximately 11 GWh of clean energy annually, reducing carbon emissions by around 15,000 tonnes per year. In addition to lowering emissions, the deployment supports improved network reliability, particularly in energy-constrained and underserved areas, enabling more consistent connectivity for millions of users.

The implementation uses integrated green site solutions combining solar power generation, battery storage, and intelligent energy management systems. These systems are designed to optimize energy usage, maintain operational continuity, and improve efficiency across diverse operating conditions. The collaboration with Huawei enables the deployment of these solutions at scale across the network.

Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of JazzWorld, said: “Building Pakistan’s digital future requires infrastructure that is both resilient and responsible. Expanding solar across our network allows us to reduce our environmental footprint while improving service reliability for our customers. Our collaboration with Huawei has enabled us to scale this transition efficiently, supporting both our sustainability goals and Pakistan’s clean energy ambitions.”

Steven Yi, Senior Vice President of Huawei, added: “This project marks an important milestone in Huawei’s collaboration with Jazz in advancing green communications. By leveraging innovative energy solutions, we are supporting operators in reducing carbon emissions while enhancing network performance. We remain committed to enabling Pakistan’s communications industry in its journey towards a more sustainable and intelligent future.”

The deployment will continue to expand as part of a broader long-term sustainability strategy, aligned with a target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
