Janashakthi Life, a leading name in the insurance sector and a subsidiary of JXG (Janashakthi Group of Companies), recently implemented a special community service under the leadership of its Life Operations for the students of Mahawa/Bakmeewewa Primary School, a rural school affected by Cyclone ‘Ditwa’.
This community service mission was implemented as part of Janashakthi Life’s efforts to make progress accessible to all, especially students living in underprivileged areas. The main objective of this program was to identify the difficulties that students were facing in their education after the damage caused by the cyclone and to prepare the necessary environment for them to resume their education.
Under this community service, Janashakthi Life donated books, school bags and stationery as well as a Multimedia Projector. It was an encouragement to the students to get rid of the effects of the cyclone and return to their education, as well as to improve the facilities at their school.
Commenting on the program, Janashakthi Insurance PLC Director and CEO Ravi Liyanage said: “Janashakthi Life always strives to do more than just provide financial protection, but also to do something meaningful for the communities we serve. Supporting the continuation of education, especially in difficult times, is an investment in the future. We firmly believe that everyone should have an equal opportunity to rebuild their lives after a disaster and that no child should be disadvantaged by the effects of circumstances beyond their control.”
A large number of Janashakthi Life staff from various departments participated in this program, which was led by the Life Insurance Operations Division. This was an opportunity to demonstrate the enthusiasm and commitment of everyone in the company to work together for community service programs.
Describing the benefits this program has brought to the rural communities, Assistant General Manager (Life Operations) Fatima Amir said: “This program was initiated as a result of our sincere interest in meeting the needs of these students following the cyclone. Our aim was to restore the daily academic activities of the school and help the students and teachers to return to normal life. We were able to achieve this 100 percent success due to the generous contribution received from the entire staff of the company.”
Through such programs, Janashakthi Life aims to further strengthen its role as a responsible corporate citizen, make community development an integral part of its operations, and make a positive contribution to education and long-term social well-being.
