The 19th edition of the Ladies’ College vs. Visakha Vidyalaya Annual Water Polo Encounter for the MN Edussuriya Trophy is set to begin today at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool Complex from 2 PM onwards.
Ladies’ College, led by captain and goalie Ayahna Amarasinghe, will face off against Visakha Vidyalaya, skippered by Mehansa Jayaratne, in one of Sri Lanka’s most anticipated girls’ water polo matches.
Defending champions Ladies’ College, the Flower Road School, won last year with a convincing 14-6 scoreline. In the 19 editions so far, Visakha Vidyalaya holds the upper hand with 11 victories, while Ladies’ College has won six times. The matches in 2020 and 2021 were not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ladies’ College’s vice-captain Chrishael Robin will play in the Bar position, supported by senior players Treasa Adams, Aneeka Sumanathilake, Sitaraah Zuhair, Tharuki Kalansooriya, and Karishma Hewavisenti.
For Visakha Vidyalaya, vice-captain Arani Dorabawila and players like Rohansa Vidyaratne, Thiyumi Gunawardena, Poojani Wijesinghe, Ruwanya Dadagamuwa, and Divya Aluthgama will be key to their success.
The Under-15 match will begin at 2:30 PM, followed by the main event at 4:30 PM. Sachini Ratanayake, the 2011 Ladies’ College water polo captain, will be the chief guest at the awards presentation.
