Sri Lankan athlete Sandun Kosala excelled at the South Asian Junior Athletics Championship, winning the gold medal in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.06 seconds yesrerday in Chennai. Vishwa Tharuka also made his mark, winning the bronze medal with 14.27 seconds. Indian athlete Nayan Pradeep took silver with a time of 14.14 seconds.
Sri Lanka added three more bronze medals to their tally: Muyuni Gunatilleka in the girls’ 100m hurdles, Thevindu Sandil in the boys’ long jump, and Savindya Jayamaha in the girls’ discus throw.
The boys’ 400m final and the 3000m finals for both boys and girls were scheduled for last night. Today is the final day of the championship.
Omel Shashintha won the silver medal in the 400m with his personal best time of 47.17 seconds. The team, comprising 53 junior athletes, has shown strong competition. (D.R.)
