DFCC Bank Partners with Durdans Hospital to Offer Free Breast Cancer Screenings and Awareness for DFCC Female Staff
In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, DFCC Bank, through its women-centric initiative DFCC Aloka, partnered with Durdans Hospital on October 16, 2024, to provide free breast cancer screenings, live-streamed webinars, and personalised care for its female employees. This collaboration also involved the DFCC Bank's Human Resource Department, which ensured the smooth implementation of the initiative and made these valuable services easily accessible to all female staff members.
As part of the initiative, DFCC Bank's female employees received breast cancer screenings entirely free of charge, sponsored by Durdans Hospital, along with the opportunity for TLC.
During these screenings, the resident Family Physician at Durdans Hospital and a dedicated team of female doctors and nurses were available to offer individualised attention and ensure a comfortable experience. To further support employees' health education, a live-streamed webinar focusing on breast health, early detection, and the latest advancements in breast cancer treatment was held.
Shera Hassen, Vice President – Head of Pinnacle/Branch Banking Planning & Implementation at DFCC Bank, commented:
"At DFCC Aloka, we are committed to empowering and supporting our female staff in every way possible. Through this partnership with Durdans Hospital and the support of our HR team, we offered free screenings, personalised care, and educational resources to raise awareness about breast cancer. This initiative underscored our belief in the importance of early detection and creating a culture of care and well-being within the workplace."
Paduma Subasinghe, Senior Vice President (SVP) and Head of Human Resources at DFCC Bank, remarked:
"We believed that providing our female staff with access to breast cancer screenings and health education was an important step towards ensuring their well-being. This initiative was not just about raising awareness of breast cancer but also about fostering a culture where women feel supported both in terms of their health and their professional growth. The webinar and free screenings gave our staff essential tools for early detection and a healthier, more informed future."
Dr. Shreen Wilathagamuwa, Resident Family Physician at Durdans Hospital, also emphasised the value of this collaboration:
"We were pleased to work alongside DFCC Bank to offer fully free-of-charge breast cancer screenings for the bank's female employees. Early detection can significantly improve outcomes, and by offering personalised care through female doctors and nurses, we ensured that women felt supported and empowered to take charge of their health. We encouraged all women to schedule screenings regularly as part of their routine health care."
The live-stream webinar was an integral part of the program. It provided employees with expert guidance on breast health, self-examination, and the importance of early detection. This interactive session allowed employees to ask questions and gain valuable insights into breast cancer prevention and treatment.
This initiative was part of DFCC Aloka's broader effort to support the holistic well-being of female employees. By offering financial solutions and health-related services, DFCC Bank continued to promote women's empowerment in and outside the workplace.
