Corporate Gold Membership recognizes commitment to sustainability and green finance
CDB’s Green Home concept drives home construction with eco-friendly uses of energy, water, and building materials
Membership augments CDB’s commitment to integrating sustainability into financial operations
Recognizing their unwavering commitment to driving environmental stewardship and sustainable financing solutions, Citizens Development Business Finance PLC (CDB) was conferred Corporate Gold Membership by the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka on the 2nd of April this year. The prestigious affiliation highlights CDB’s active role in promoting sustainable practices within the financial sector and supporting the transformation of Sri Lanka’s built environment through green initiatives and responsible financing.
With the construction sector being responsible for almost 40% of CO2 emissions worldwide, CDB is committed to the building of green homes, an initiative which could play a significant role in reducing carbon emissions. “Compared to standard construction techniques, green buildings can reduce up to 34% of carbon emissions,” said Deputy CEO/Executive Director Damith Tennakoon, adding that a single green home could save nearly 3,628 kilograms of carbon emissions annually.
“Derived from CDB’s business strategy, we are accelerating access to affordable green housing and renewable energy solutions for households,” he says. “The initiative demonstrates our commitment to the sustainable transformation of Sri Lanka’s built environment and the development of a more eco-conscious future.” Tennakoon also said that by being counted as one of the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka’s gold members, CDB has also been recognized as an environmentally responsible business organization.
“For over thirty years, CDB has remained true to the triple bottom line sustainability framework of People, Planet, Profit. With sustainability driving our business model and operations, our efforts at developing environmentally friendly finance services, products, and initiatives reinforce our role in Sri Lanka’s holistic push for green finance. The membership now opens doors for CDB to share its expertise while learning from global leaders and an expansive industry network, further enabling CDB to drive and influence the industry’s direction,” he concluded.
