Sri Lanka’s motor racing sensation Yevan David, the country’s first-ever FIM Motorsport Games medalist, has declared the Bandaragama Go-Karting Race Complex as one of the finest race tracks in the world.
The 17-year-old prodigy, who stamped his name in history by winning the Monza title in Italy, paid tribute to the world-class standards of the Bandaragama facility. He highlighted its professional design and construction, stating it has the potential to host international motor racing competitions.
“This track is on par with the best in the world,” David remarked. “As a nation, we should strive to bring top-tier international competitions to Bandaragama. It’s a venue that deserves global recognition.”
David’s triumph at Monza, one of the most iconic race circuits in the world, marked a groundbreaking moment for Sri Lanka. Competing in the 101-year-old event for the first time, he not only secured victory but also ensured the Sri Lankan national anthem was played twice on the historic podium—a first in the century-old history of the competition.
The Monza tournament, which began in 1923, has long been a proving ground for the best racing talent globally. David’s victory signifies the first time a Sri Lankan driver has claimed a top-level motorsport title, positioning Sri Lanka on the global motorsport map.
David’s achievements at such a young age are a beacon of hope for aspiring Sri Lankan racers and an evidence to the country’s growing potential in international motorsport. His appreciation of Bandaragama as a world-class venue adds further weight to Sri Lanka’s ambitions of hosting international competitions in the future.
