Jevahn Sathasivam of Asian International School has made a remarkable rise in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) following his historic win at the Sri Lanka Amateur Championship. The 16-year-old, who was ranked 2013th before the tournament, jumped 1257 places to achieve a career-best ranking of 756th in the latest WAGR, issued by the International Golf Federation (IGF) yesterday.
Sathasivam’s victory in the 133rd edition of the Sri Lanka Amateur Championship, held at the Royal Colombo Golf Club, is a historic moment in Sri Lankan golf. At just 16 years old, Sathasivam became the second youngest golfer in history to win the prestigious tournament, which is the longest-running amateur championship outside the United Kingdom.
Making a debut in amateur level, the young golfer defeated some of the best players in Sri Lanka, as well as competitors from India, Pakistan, and Dubai, to claim the title. Sathasivam’s performance over the last 104 weeks includes two wins and five top-10 finishes, with an average points score of 504.88.
This impressive achievement has propelled Sathasivam into the top four amateur golfers in Sri Lanka, a significant milestone in his brief junior golf career.
