Sri Lanka’s young tennis talent shone bright as Damsath Peiris and Yudheerya Atapattu in the Boys’ Singles, along with Annaya Norbet of Sri Lanka and Diya Ravikumar of India in the Girls’ Singles, advanced to the eagerly awaited finals of the Week 2 ATF Under-14 Tennis Championship at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts in Colombo yesterday.
Peiris secured his place in the final by defeating Dexter Yu from Hong Kong in a powerful 6-3, 6-0 victory. Atapattu, in another strong showing, swept past fellow Sri Lankan Thuvakar Sathiees with a decisive 6-0, 6-2 in the other semi-final.
In the earlier quarter-finals, Peiris overcame Buvindu Jayawardane 6-4, 6-1, while Atapattu held off Udeera Gunasinghe with scores of 8-1, 7-5, marking a tournament dominated by Sri Lankan talent.
In the Girls’ Singles, Annaya Norbet earned a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 win over India’s Sanvi Reddy in her semi-final. Meanwhile, India’s Diya Ravikumar defeated Mithravinda Sathis of the USA, claiming her spot in the final with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
The finals, set for today, will see Peiris face Atapattu in an all-Sri Lankan Boys’ showdown, while Norbet will compete against Ravikumar in the Girls’ final at the SLTA courts.
