Sri Lankans in India invited to join Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony in New Delhi

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in India has issued an invitation to Sri Lankan nationals residing in India to participate in the Flag Hoisting Ceremony commemorating the 78th Anniversary of Sri Lanka’s Independence. 

The event is scheduled for tomorrow (4) 2026, at 9:00 a.m. and will be held at the High Commission’s premises located at 27 Kautilya Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. 

Organized under the patronage of High Commissioner Mahishini Colonne, the ceremony aims to honor Sri Lanka’s independence from British colonial rule, achieved in 1948, and to celebrate this significant national milestone. 

Attendees are kindly requested to dress in national dress, uniform, or smart attire as per the invitation guidelines.

The High Commission has emphasised that prior registration is mandatory for entry. Sri Lankan nationals wishing to attend are asked to RSVP by 30 January 2026 via email at [email protected]

Sri Lanka’s Independence Day is observed annually on 4 February and remains a momentous occasion for Sri Lankans both at home and abroad, symbolizing freedom and national pride.
