Sri Lanka to surpass 2023 tourist arrival mark in Sept.

Sri Lanka attracted 70,678 tourist arrivals from September 1 to 17, 2024 and with it total arrivals passed the 1,433,346 million mark.

Despite visa constraints, some adverse Western travel advisories due to the presidential election, Tourism industry is just around 53,000 short of overrunning last year’s total arrival mark of 1,487,303.

India was the main source market for Sri Lanka in September with 14,662 arrivals and taking 20.7% of the numbers. United Kingdom (5,598 7.9%) Germany (5,086 7.2%) and China (4,377 6.2%) the second third and fourth respectively.

To date India has sent 273,334 tourists followed by the United Kingdom 133,374.
