Sri Lanka’s fuel import expenditure rises 61% compared to last year – CBSL

Sri Lanka spent USD 4,072.1 million on fuel imports from January to August 2026, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

This marks a 61.6% increase from the USD 2,520.6 million spent during the same period in 2025.

Fuel import expenditure in August 2026 alone rose 76.5% year-on-year to USD 450.6 million.
