Sri Lanka’s Yuhansa Peiris and Bovindi Jithsara emerged victorious in the Girls Doubles event at the ATF Under-16 Tennis Tournament, defeating India’s Divya Ungrish and Tejasvi Kotti at the SLTA courts in Colombo yesterday.
Peiris and Jithsara won with a scoreline of 6/1, 2/6, and 10/7, showcasing great resilience after dropping the second set. The duo displayed excellent teamwork, with Peiris’s powerful serves and Jithsara’s consistent groundstrokes proving decisive in the final match tiebreak.
In the Boys Under-16 Singles quarter-finals, all the matches were contested between Sri Lankan players. Brishman Balachandran defeated Dehan Wickramasinghe 6/3, 6/0, displaying superior control and accuracy. Ashling de Silva triumphed over Sithija Peiris 6/1, 6/1, with his solid baseline play.
Rehan Gunawardene edged out Risith Somarathne 6/2, 5/7, 6/3 in a closely contested match that saw Gunawardene maintain his composure in the final set. Methika Wickramasinghe secured a 6/1, 6/2 win against Sashen Premarathne, dominating both sets with aggressive play.
In the Girls Under-16 Singles final, Sri Lanka’s Bovindi Jithsara was unable to claim the title, losing to India’s Divya Ungrish 6/1, 6/1. Jithsara struggled against the Indian player’s fast-paced game, falling short of capturing the Singles crown for Sri Lanka.
