Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation General Limited Partners with Lanka Ride 2026 to Protect Cyclists and Promote National Sport

Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation General Limited (SLICGL), Sri Lanka’s leading motor insurance provider and a highly trusted public insurer, has joined as the official insurance partner for the nationwide cycling event, Lanka Ride 2026. The Lanka Ride cycling event is a landmark in Sri Lanka’s sporting history. Previously known as the “Lanka Ride,” this event has been organized for over two decades by Lake House and is recognized as the country’s longest and most distinctive cycling tour.

As part of Sri Lanka’s comprehensive sports development plan, the event has been revived as a national-level cycling tour with government approval and the support of relevant stakeholders, including the Police, Lake House, SLICGL, the Department of Youth Affairs, the Ministry of Sports, and the Sports Development Division.

The three-day cycling event took place from January 16 to 18, covering a route from Colombo to Kandy via Anuradhapura and returning to Colombo. The route spanned seven districts: Colombo, Gampaha, Kegalle, Kandy, Matale, Anuradhapura, and Puttalam. More than 150 cyclists from 26 cycling clubs, including the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force, and Police, participated. The event showcased the strength of Sri Lankan sports organizations and the enthusiasm for cycling across the country.

As the insurance partner, SLICGL provided personal accident insurance to all registered cyclists and officials, along with temporary motor insurance for police vehicles managing route supervision and safety.

Through its extensive national network, SLICGL’s officers engaged directly with cyclists, officials, and spectators from the start to the finish points, reinforcing the company’s role as a reliable protector both on and off the road. Over 50 company staff, agents, and volunteers welcomed and encouraged participants throughout the event, highlighting genuine partnership and community spirit.
