President meets top US envoy Sergio Gor

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met the US President Donald Trump’s Special Representative for South and Central Asia and the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor in New Delhi, India, yesterday (18).

During the meeting, the two factions discussed ways to expand US-Sri Lanka economic cooperation, deepening commercial ties, and working together to advance stability across the region.

President Dissanayake is in Delhi to attend the ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) Impact Summit of this year (2026)’, on the special invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Senior Adviser to the President on the Digital Economy Hans Wijayasuriya and the Digital Economy Ministry Secretary Waruna Sri Dhanapala are accompanying the President to the Summit. 

The Summit focuses on the responsible use of AI for the benefit of humanity. President Dissanayake is scheduled to address the Summit today (19). The five-day Summit brings together Heads of State from 20 countries and representatives from more than 45 nations. The Summit will also feature extensive discussions on the future trajectory of AI technologies and their potential application in addressing global challenges. 

During the visit to India, the President is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with several world leaders.
