The Peliyagoda Manning Market has launched a new online payment system as part of a digitalisation initiative.
The Ministry of Digital Economy noted that the system aims to improve the organisation and efficiency of daily financial transactions.
The platform was launched on 2 February under the patronage of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Minister Bimal Rathnayake, with Deputy Ministers Eranga Weerarathna and Eranga Gunasekara.
The web-based system, accessible via fmis.uda.lk, enables traders to make tax payments and other transactions using mobile phones.
Authorities stated that the system will be expanded to other economic hubs in the future.
