Sri Lanka Tourism reached a historic milestone when the country recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals for the month of January attracting 252,761 visitors. This is surpassing the previous best January arrival figure of 238,924 achieved in 2018.
India was the best source market for Sri Lanka attracting 43,375 with a share of 17.2% while Russian arrivals was second with 34,096 taking a 13.5% share and the United Kingdom came third with 21,730. (8.6%)
With the Chinese New Year ending Chinese arrivals started to increase and moved to the fourth place with 16,709 arrivals beating Germany which slummed to the fifth place with 15,050 visitors. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to China and meeting their President Xi Jinping is also expected to give a major destination boost for Sri Lankan Tourism in China.
Minister of Tourism and Foreign Affairs, Vijitha Herath said that Sri Lanka is expected to record the best year of arrivals in 2025 surpassing 3 million tourists.
