Hasaranga surges up T20I Rankings

Wanindu Hasaranga’s rise was one of the standout stories in the latest ICC Men’s Rankings update, with the Sri Lanka leg-spinner closing in on the top after a decisive impact in the T20I series against Pakistan.

His consistent wicket-taking performances helped him climb three places to second in the T20I bowlers’ rankings, underlining his status as one of the most influential white-ball spinners in world cricket.

While Hasaranga’s leap caught the eye in the shortest format, the ODI rankings were dominated by Virat Kohli’s return to the summit.

The veteran India batter reclaimed the No.1 spot following his match-winning 93 off 91 balls in India’s four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the first ODI in Vadodara.

Kohli’s knock guided India past a 300-run target and continued a remarkable run of form that has seen him score 74*, 135, 102, 65* and 93 in his last five ODI innings.

The 37-year-old returned to the top of the ODI batting rankings for the first time since July 2021, marking the 11th spell of his career at No.1.

Having first reached the summit in October 2013, Kohli has now spent a total of 825 days at the top – the most by any Indian and the 10th-highest overall in men’s cricket history.

His recent exploits have also taken him closer to Sachin Tendulkar on the all-time international run-scorer’s chart.
