Dengue cases surpass 100,000 in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka’s dengue cases have crossed the 100,000 mark this year, with 100,127 cases reported by September 27, according to the latest dengue surveillance data.

The data from the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) show that 4,637 cases were reported during September up to September 27, following 10,155 cases in August and 29,964 cases in July.

The highest number of cases has been reported from the Gampaha District, with 21,234 cases, accounting for 21.21% of the national total.

Colombo follows with 19,634 cases (19.61%), while Kandy has recorded 7,624 cases (7.61%), Kalutara 6,365 (6.36%), Matara 6,284 (6.28%) and Galle 5,465 (5.46%).

The Western Province accounts for more than half of all dengue cases, with 52,562 cases or 52.50% of the national total.

The Southern Province has recorded 14,388 cases (14.37%), followed by the Central Province with 9,498 cases (9.49%) and Sabaragamuwa Province with 8,268 cases (8.26%).
