Cricketer Charya Yasara excels for St. Aloysius’ College

Fourth year player, all rounder, safe fielder, last years first eleven vice captain and this years Captain, District and Provincial Captain, Club cricketer Ginthota Paranawithanage Charya Yasara Paranawithana has brought honour and immense glory to his Alma Mater St. Aloysius College, Galle with his deeds in the field of cricket.

Charya who hails from Kurunduwaththa, Galle was born on 5th May 2006 and in 2014 he showed an interest in cricket and noticing this his parents Yasath Paranawithana and Rasika de Silva made arrangements to handover him to the then school cricket academy cricket coach Pasan Chinthaka. He bats right hand top order and is the wicket keeper of the side.

His first year in the under 13 was in 2016 and in two outings he scored 50 runs and in his second year he collected 170 runs with two half centuries and in the third year he scored 150 runs with two fifties and in his fourth year he scored 228 runs with a century and a fifty and in his last year captaining the side he scored 264 runs with four fifties and claimed 20 victims behind the stumps.

In the under 15 tournament he could not play due to Corona Virus and in his second year he scored 160 runs in four matches which includes two fifties and he was the Vice Captain of the District Team.

Then in the under 17 he could play only one season and scored 190 runs with two fifties and captained the District Team.

His first year in the first eleven team was in 2021/22 and played in five one dayers and scored 127 runs and in three traditional matches he collected 170 runs with two fifties and in his second year he scored 787 runs with seven fifties and in the One Day Tournament he got 247 runs with four fifties. This season he scored 887 runs with a century and six fifties and in the One Day Tournament he passed 300 mark with three fifties and claimed 36 victims behind the stumps and his coach was Ajantha Kumara. He played for the District Team for three years and captained the team once and his coach was Ajith Werasinghe and played for the Provincial Team for two years and captained the team.

In the Big Match against their arch rivals Vidyaloka College, Galle he scored a century and earned the Best Batsman and the Man of the Match awards.

He played for the Galle Cricket Club in the Premier Tournament and in the Invitational under 21 Tournament he played for the Navy Sports Club and scored 345 runs and became the Player of the Tournament and also played for the Tier ‘B’ Tournament.
