COPF examines Treasury report on $ 2.5 m cyber fraud

The Committee on Public Finance (COPF), met yesterday (8) with the intention of discussing the controversial transfer of $ 2.5 million in Treasury funds – which had been originally due to be paid to the Australian Government – however was allegedly redirected to another party following a cyber attack.

The meeting was notified to the public as one that would focus on the report prepared by the Treasury regarding the incident.

Reports indicated that Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr Harshana Suriyapperuma and Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe were also to be summoned to appear before the committee.

The Committee on Public Finance had previously called for a report from the Treasury on the transfer of the $ 2.5 million to a third party, which has now been submitted to the Parliament.
