Chinese delegation eye more investments in Sri Lanka

Chinese investors are interested in making new investments in Sri Lanka, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Sri Lanka said.

This came to light with a recent visit of a Chinese delegation led by Deputy Chairman of Yuan Chamber of Industry and Commerce Mou Hongean to Sri Lanka to explore investment opportunities in Sri Lanka and to explore opportunities to promote Chinese exports to Sri Lanka.

The Chinese business delegation has expressed their interest in investing in several sectors including production and service sectors in Sri Lanka after visiting the ICC Sri Lanka branch in Colombo.

On behalf of the ICC Sri Lanka Sri Lanka, its Secretary Hemakumara Gunasekara, Vice President Johnny Fernando, International Relations Deputy Secretary Buddhapriya Ramanayake and Chief Operating Officer Sanjeeva Karunaratne joined the discussions. Accordingly, the Chinese delegation discussed at length about solar power projects in Sri Lanka, expanding the tourism sector between China and Sri Lanka, exporting Chinese products to Sri Lanka, creating new Chinese investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, etc.

ICC Sri Lanka Secretary Gunasekara expressed his willingness to coordinate with institutions of the public and private sector in Sri Lanka and involve the entrepreneurs of Sri Lanka in joint projects. Also, Gunasekara pointed out that Asia’s largest international arbitration facilitation centre will be established in Sri Lanka next month, which will bring great relief to people engaged in international business activities.

The delegation also visited the port city and discussed with its representatives about the investment opportunities in the port city. The Chinese delegation included Director General Chen Hui of the Chamber of Commerce, Counselor Li Anshun, Li Shu Company Chairman Li Bin, Yunnak Haode Company Chairman Hong Jsin, Lijang Jtahe Group Chairman Hong Wenxig,

Chairman of Bazhan Cultural Communication Company Chen Yingai and Wang Dahu joined this discussions.

Following the discussions Deputy Chairman of Yuan Chamber of Industry and Commerce Mou Hongean on behalf of the Chinese delegation invited Gunasekara and Sri Lankan investors to participate in the International Trade and Industry Investment Promotion Exhibition to be held in Yuwan State in December this year.
