China has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sri Lanka during ongoing global disruptions caused by conflicts in the Middle East, according to Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhenhong.
Despite China itself facing fuel constraints importing over 76% of its oil annually Beijing remains the sole country providing fuel assistance to Sri Lanka.
Ambassador Qi emphasised that China has consistently been at the forefront of aid efforts whenever Sri Lanka faces difficulties. He highlighted recent deliveries through Sinopec, noting that shipments reached Sri Lanka last month and this month, overcoming logistical challenges.
The Chinese Government has assured continued fuel support to help Sri Lanka address shortages.
Beyond fuel, China is also supporting Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector, particularly during the crucial Yala cultivation season.
The ambassador pointed out that global shortages of natural gas have impacted fertilizer production worldwide, but China remains committed to exporting fertilizer to Sri Lanka, ensuring farmers have the necessary inputs for rice planting.
