Atlas, Sri Lanka's leading learning brand in collaboration with the Western Province Department of Education, recently hosted its annual ‘Atlas Guru Garu’ teacher appreciation event to celebrate the dedication and impact of educators shaping the future of Sri Lanka’s children. The occasion brought together over 250 teachers and educators from across the Western Province, along with key officials Mr. Vernon Perera, Secretary, Ministry of Education - Western Province and Ms. Dharshani Iddamalgoda, Director, Western Province - Department of Education.
Each year, Atlas collaborates with over 7,000 teachers nationwide through flagship initiatives such as Atlas Guru Garu, aimed at advancing the skills and knowledge that enable teachers to build quality learning spaces. The brand has been at the forefront of transforming education for over 65 years, driven by a purpose to make learning fun and enjoyable. The Atlas Guru Garu initiative builds on this mission by recognising teachers who go above and beyond in their profession and this year’s event reaffirmed Atlas’s ongoing commitment to uplifting the education community.
Commenting on the initiative, Asitha Samaraweera, Managing Director of Atlas Axillia Co. Ltd, said, “Teachers share a uniquely powerful bond with their students, guiding not only their academic growth but also nurturing their curiosity and dreams. I believe the event, Atlas Guru Garu, served as a platform to give back to the very people who empower learning every day by celebrating their invaluable impact and the difference they make in every classroom.”
Vernon Perera, Secretary, Ministry of Education – Western Province, further added, “It is inspiring to see brands such as Atlas consistently come forward each year with Atlas Guru Garu, and we are honoured to be a part of its mission. Partnerships like these further reinforce the recognition and support that educators rightly deserve for their commitment to education.”
The event highlighted Atlas Axillia’s sustained commitment to supporting education and building a community where teachers are valued and inspired. Atlas’s focus on teacher development and recognition contributes to creating a stronger, more resilient education system that nurtures future generations in Sri Lanka.
