Anjalika Kurera sealed a stunning triple crown victory at the ongoing Mercantile Tennis Tournament with a comprehensive win in the women’s doubles final held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts in Colombo.
Kurera, already crowned champion in the Women’s Singles and Mixed Doubles, teamed up with Targ Greig of MAS Holdings in the Women’s Doubles to deliver a flawless performance.
The duo defeated Dinesha Bopitiya of Lanka Minerals and Chemicals (Pvt) Ltd and Oshini Wickramasinghe of Standard Chartered Bank in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. This victory further expanded Kurera’s impressive list of titles, cementing her status as one of the tournament’s notable players.
Meanwhile, Sanka Athukorala of Lanka Minerals and Chemicals (Pvt) Ltd emerged victorious in the Over-35 Singles, dominating Stepan Costa of Sanj Paul M (Pvt) Ltd with a decisive 6-1, 6-0 win.
Athukorala also excelled in the Over-35 Doubles category, teaming up with MU Bopitiya to defeat Commercial Credit’s Aruna Seneviratne and Rajiv Casie in a hard-fought match, securing a 7-6, 6-1 victory.
Seneviratne and Casie bounced back impressively to claim championship titles in the Over-45 Doubles and Over-55 Doubles categories, proving their mettle as seasoned competitors. The month-long Mercantile Tennis Tournament will conclude today with a prize-giving ceremony scheduled to take place at 6 PM at the SLTA Headquarters in Colombo.
