Allianz, in partnership with the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS), is supporting education recovery efforts for children and families affected by the Ditwah Cyclone in Sri Lanka. The initiative is being implemented through the first tranche of Allianz's €200,000 commitment to Sri Lanka, which forms part of a wider €600,000 regional disaster relief and recovery program spanning Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Indonesia. The program is helping restore access to education and strengthen community resilience in some of the country's most affected districts.
The initiative focuses on vulnerable communities in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, and Puttalam, where the cyclone significantly disrupted livelihoods, schooling, and daily life. By prioritizing education and child well-being, the program aims to ensure that children can continue their learning journeys despite the challenges posed by the disaster.
Recognizing the critical role education plays in both recovery and long-term resilience, the project has prioritized support for school-going children and early learners impacted by the cyclone. To date, 4,315 educational packs have been distributed across the three districts, providing students with essential school supplies and helping them return to structured learning environments.
In addition, children attending Early Childhood Development (ECD) centers have received stationery and play kits. These resources not only support early learning and development but also contribute to psychosocial well-being, helping young children cope with the disruption and uncertainty brought about by the disaster.
The program reflects Allianz's commitment to supporting communities not only in the immediate aftermath of disasters but also throughout the recovery phase, helping individuals and families rebuild their lives with confidence.
