AIS’s Shantal emerges top Canoeist at National C’ship

Shantal de Silva of Asian International School emerged as the Best Paddler in two age categories, winning an impressive four gold medals at the 8th Canoeing Sprint National Championship, organized by the National Association of Canoeing and Kayaking in Sri Lanka and sponsored by the Sri Lanka Navy, took place at Mandathivu Island in the Jaffna Peninsula.

Competing in the Under-18 girls’ K1 events, de Silva secured gold in the 200m, 500m, and 1000m races. She recorded times of 1:01.90 in the 200m, 3:00.48 in the 500m, and 6:22.87 in the 1000m, displaying her dominance in all three events.

In addition to her Under-18 victories, de Silva clinched another gold in the Under-23 women’s K2 200m event, with a time of 1:10.00, establishing her reputation as the best paddler of the tournament.

The competition featured 480 athletes across four age groups: Under-16, Under-18, Under-21, and Under-23, along with Open Men’s and Women’s categories, and the Schools Dragon Boat race.
